The old house at 5808 North Florida Avenue used to sit quiet in Seminole Heights — now a light pink bungalow with a shaded patio spills people out onto the sidewalk before noon, carrying paper cups and boxes of brioche donuts that turn deep purple with ube or streak green with matcha. The Salty Donut opened this second Tampa location on June 27, part of the brand’s expansion across the country since launching in Miami. A few blocks over, six-year-old Davis Islands institution DI Coffee Bar followed with its own Seminole Heights location on N. Central Ave.
The Salty builds everything on-site — the croissant dough is laminated in-house, and the menu adds breakfast sandwiches and hybrids like the Cragel (a croissant-bagel mashup) alongside the donuts. DI Coffee Bar serves Panther Coffee sourced from Miami roasters paired with a rotating pastry list.
This isn’t an isolated pair of openings — Salty Donut, DI Coffee Bar, Bamboozle, and Con Amor Mexican Restaurant are all expanding into Seminole Heights within the same stretch, according to Tampa Bay Business and Wealth. Together they’re filling a morning-and-lunch gap on a corridor that until now leaned almost entirely toward full-service dinner spots — turning North Florida Avenue from a place you drove through into a place where people actually walk between counters with coffee in hand.
