Seminole Heights has become Tampa’s most concentrated pocket of serious food talent, and Rooster & the Till, tucked at 6500 N. Florida Ave., is a big reason why. The dining room holds just 37 seats, built around a bar that wraps an open kitchen — counter seats get the best view of the action. Michelin Guide inspectors, who awarded the restaurant a Bib Gourmand for good quality at a fair price, describe it as “a low-key spot with a contemporary feel,” adding that “between the lively tunes and buzzy staff, the aura is anything but stuffy.”
The menu is a single page, and it changes often — small, shareable plates pulling from Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Levant, in Michelin’s words, “freewheeling, frequently changing and shareable.” The fried cobia collar with nuoc cham “boasts a cultish following,” per Michelin, while the green garbanzo croquette arrives dressed in Goan curry with avocado, melon, and sikil p’ak — an unlikely combination that keeps regulars coming back. Dessert closes with black sesame ice cream, pineapple-cashew jam, and Thai tea caramel.
The pork belly draws its own following. Cooked sous vide and plated with cornbread, pickled apple, and peppercorn honey, a local food blogger called it “some of the best pork belly [she’s] ever devoured.” The duck confit, mounded on smoked eggplant with foie gras emulsion and a scattering of paper-thin watermelon radish, earns similarly enthusiastic notes.
One longtime Tampa diner summed it up on TripAdvisor: “I went to Rooster and The Till in February and IMMEDIATELY deemed it my favorite restaurant in Tampa. I’ve lived here 25 years and try to explore new restaurants all the time. It is probably my top 3 dining experiences ever.” That kind of praise tracks with the restaurant’s standing — currently ranked #6 out of more than 5,200 restaurants in Tampa on RestaurantGuru, with a 4.6 rating from over 1,300 Google reviews and a 4.9 from nearly 400 on OpenTable.
The room runs loud by design — moderate noise shows up as a recurring note across review platforms, part of the energy rather than a flaw. Rooster & the Till opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and is closed Sunday through Tuesday. In a neighborhood full of good options, this is the one worth planning around.
