At Con Amor, House-Made Masa Is the Real Reason to Visit Seminole Heights

The tortillas are the whole point at Con Amor — made fresh from nixtamalized masa, warm and nutty enough that reviewers keep mentioning them before anything else on the menu.

Chef Taylor Dillon and Kayla Chang opened the restaurant in February on the ground floor of Avenue Lofts, and the menu splits between comfort-food familiars (queso, tacos, quesadillas) and dishes built to be the reason you drove over: the masacini, pork belly risotto stuffed inside masa over a bed of queso, and the chicken mole ($25), where a rich sauce sweetened with dates and raisins coats a braised chicken thigh next to Mexican rice and pickled onions. Brunch has become its own reason to go — worth planning around rather than treating as an afterthought.

Seminole Heights has added a wave of Mexican concepts recently, but Con Amor’s bet is on technique — house-made masa is genuinely labor-intensive, and it shows up in a way that separates the kitchen from anywhere just reheating store-bought tortillas.

Good to know: Con Amor is on the ground floor of Avenue Lofts, Seminole Heights, Tampa.
