Tampa Bay has three genuinely great family destinations within a few miles of each other, and each one solves a different kind of restless-kid afternoon. Here’s the real details on all three.
The Florida Aquarium, 701 Channelside Drive, is the obvious start — open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (hours can shift around holidays and school breaks), with adult tickets generally running $30–$40 and kids 3–11 up to $35. The glass-domed building itself is worth a look before you’re even inside, and the touch tanks and Tropical Reef exhibit tend to be where the day actually gets remembered.
Two blocks from the Tampa Museum of Art, at 110 W Gasparilla Plaza, the Glazer Children’s Museum runs Tuesday through Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the school year, seven days a week in summer. General admission is $24.95 ($19.95 for Florida residents), babies under one play free, and it’s genuinely free for everyone the first Tuesday of every month from noon to 7 p.m. — worth building a visit around if your schedule allows it. There’s also a $5 Access Pass for up to four guests with EBT, SNAP, or WIC.
For a bigger outing, ZooTampa at Lowry Park, 1101 W Sligh Ave, is open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day). Adult admission runs about $42.95, kids 3–11 about $32.95, free for two and under, and parking is free — plan for a half-day at minimum, since it’s a real zoo, not a petting-zoo-sized stop.
Aquarium for the morning, children’s museum for a rainy afternoon, zoo for the day you’ve got real hours to spend — that’s the actual family-day playbook for Tampa Bay, priced and timed the way you’ll actually experience it.
