The Special Events Center at the Florida State Fairgrounds turns into a nine-nights-of-dance celebration this week, two nights at a time.
The Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay hosts Navratri on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, 8–11 p.m., with live Garba and Dandiya dancing, music, and cultural performances. Navratri marks nine nights honoring the goddess Durga, and the circular Garba dance — performed around a central lamp or image — is the centerpiece of the celebration across Gujarati communities worldwide. Entry is through the MLK Jr. Blvd side of the Fairgrounds, not the main gate most concertgoers use.
It’s one of the larger South Asian cultural events on the Tampa calendar this fall, and it runs the same week the Fairgrounds’ other stage is hosting Dan + Shay and $uicideboy$ — three very different crowds converging on the same stretch of US-301 the same two nights.
When: Friday & Saturday, October 16–17, 2026, 8–11 p.m.
Where: Special Events Center, Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 US Hwy 301 N, Tampa (enter via MLK Jr. Blvd)
Cost: Free for Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay members, $30 for non-members. Parking is $10 online in advance or $12 on-site.
Good to know
Traditional dress is customary for Garba and Dandiya, so expect most of the crowd in it — not required, but you’ll feel it if you show up in street clothes. The Fairgrounds is hosting three separate large events this same weekend, so budget extra time for parking and traffic even though this one uses a different entrance than the amphitheatre crowd.
Tickets are available through the Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay’s own site. Times and pricing are drawn from the organizer’s event listing and can change — check ahead.
