John Mellencamp’s ‘Dancing Words Tour’ Brings Four Decades of Hits to Tampa

Update: This event has passed. John Mellencamp played MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre on Monday, August 3, 2026.

John Mellencamp hasn’t exactly been resting on those hits since the 1980s, but his new tour is betting Tampa will gladly revisit them anyway. The “Dancing Words Tour — The Greatest Hits” rolls into MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre on Monday, August 3, at 8 p.m., built around a set list of the songs people already know by heart — “Jack and Diane,” “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.,” “Pink Houses” — plus deeper catalog cuts along the way.

The venue holds roughly 20,000, tucked inside the Florida State Fairgrounds off US-301. Worth knowing before you go: the amphitheatre’s roof won’t be fully in place for the 2026 summer season due to ongoing hurricane-damage reconstruction, so this is very much an open-air show. Tickets start at $27.50, with parking sold separately from the ticket itself.

Mellencamp hasn’t played a Tampa Bay amphitheatre since the 2024 Outlaw Music Festival run alongside Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan, so a solo headline date fills a real gap — a four-decade catalog in one night, no shared-bill compromise on set length.
