John Hampson of Nine Days — the band whose “Absolutely (Story of a Girl)” was inescapable in 2000 — plays Skipper’s Smokehouse, the decades-old outdoor tiki-bar concert grounds tucked under oak trees in North Tampa.
Skipper’s has hosted touring acts since the ’80s and is as much a Tampa institution as any artist who plays it — picnic tables, a rambling wooden stage, and a crowd that treats a Saturday night there as a destination on its own.
An outdoor general-admission show — fine for families with kids along, though it’s a bar venue with an adult crowd.
