Every Wednesday night, a Seminole Heights brewery turns one corner of its taproom into an informal language exchange — Hablamos Español runs weekly at Common Dialect Beerworks, 7-9 p.m., open to every level from total beginner to fluent.
Common Dialect itself is a husband-and-wife-run neighborhood brewery on North Florida Avenue, the kind of place that rotates in food trucks and leans dog-friendly rather than trying to be a destination bar. The language meetup is one of several community events the owners, Mike and Kendra Conze, run through the space — it’s conversation practice, not a structured class, so nobody’s correcting your grammar on a worksheet.
It’s the kind of thing that works equally well as an actual study habit or as a low-key first date — a reason to sit across from someone and talk, with built-in conversation and no pressure to carry the whole night on small talk alone.
Seminole Heights has had more of this lately — the neighborhood also runs its own monthly Sunday market, a few blocks from Common Dialect, if a Wednesday night doesn’t work and a weekend trip to the same part of town does.
Good to know: Common Dialect Beerworks, 5023 N Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33603. Every Wednesday, 7-9 p.m.
