Two of shock rock’s most enduring names are sharing a stage at the Fairgrounds this week, on only the second stop of a 21-date tour.
Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson headline the “Freaks on Parade” tour at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre on Friday, August 21, with Orgy and The HU opening. The tour opened the night before at iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, which makes this Tampa’s turn on the tour’s second night and its second straight Florida date before the run heads north.
Zombie’s been a fixture of the amphitheatre circuit for two decades, between his solo career and White Zombie’s back catalog. Manson’s live dates have been rarer in recent years, which is part of what’s driving ticket prices from the high $30s into four figures for front-of-stage seating. Orgy — the band that turned a cover of New Order’s “Blue Monday” into a 1998 radio hit — and Mongolian folk-metal act The HU round out a bill that spans three different eras of heavy music without repeating itself. It’s a heavier bill than Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte’s genre-crossing show earlier this week, but it’s the same MIDFLORIDA stage — running fully open-air this year while the venue’s roof is mid-reconstruction after hurricane damage.

The Fairgrounds amphitheatre is the same venue hosting the Goo Goo Dolls later this month — a useful reminder that “amphitheatre season” in Tampa swings hard between genres week to week. If a stadium show is more your speed this weekend, the Buccaneers host the Chiefs in their lone home preseason game the very next night at Raymond James.
Parking at the Fairgrounds fills up for amphitheatre shows this size — plan to arrive well before the 6:30 start if you want to avoid the lot backup on US-301.
