Tokyo Swim Club is opening on the rooftop of the Casa Gomez building at 1229 E
8th Ave in Ybor City this fall, from the team behind Kōsen and Tanto — confirmed via coverage in
the Tampa Bay Times and Creative Loafing Tampa, though an exact opening date hasn’t been announced
yet.
The concept, led by Kōsen’s Director of Beverage and Sustainability Mike Western and Executive
Chef Andrew Huang, draws on 1960s Tokyo’s members-only club culture. Expect izakaya-style
dining — sushi, handrolls, and yakitori — built to pair with an elevated cocktail list, served
around a covered central bar and an open-air patio done up with striped umbrellas and lounge
seating.
It’s the same team behind two of the Heights District’s more talked-about restaurants, so
expectations are already high for what a rooftop version of that approach looks like in Ybor.
No opening date yet, but this is one worth watching for anyone who wants a reservation on night
one rather than night thirty.
